He attended St. Theresa’s elementary, John Muir elementary then Hamilton junior high and Fresno High School. Art graduated from Fresno State with a general education credential and began his teaching career at Central High School until he was drafted into the army in 1962.
He was assigned to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. While there he was commended for meritorious service of his duties as a medical laboratory specialist while assigned to the histology laboratory of the division of clinical surgery, Walter Reed.
After his military service, Art returned to Fresno and resumed his teaching career at Fresno High School where he remained until retirement in 1997. Of all the sciences, he enjoyed Botany the most. During his retirement, Art served on the boards of Shinzen Garden and Clovis Botanical Garden. He enjoyed working with all the people, the board members and Volunteers.
Art is survived by his wife, Arletta, his brother Donald Munger of Oregon, his sister-in-law Betty Dean, nieces and nephew Stella (Rowde) Blackwell, Barbara (Paul) Gilman, Eddie (Lori) Dean, all of Clovis CA. Sisters-in-law Wanda Zurn, Shirley Zurn, Estelle (Ray) Farley and brother-in-law David (Eleanor) Zurn of Minnesota and North Dakota. He has many nieces and nephews, great nieces/nephews and great great nieces/nephews throughout the United States.
Preceding him in death are his parents, W. Duane and Dorthy Munger, brothers-in-law Marcel (Rosemary) Zurn, Duane (Dolores) Zurn, Merlen Zurn, Harlan Zurn, Marcus (Gail) Zurn and Jerry Dean.
