Dora was an inspiration and her friendship a joy to me during our employment at Westlands Water District.  She would let me help, and learn how, to feed a crowd at WWD luncheons in a seemingly effortless manner.  I will always remember her as a giving and inclusive friend.

I am sorry to hear of Dora’s passing and sorry that I was unable to attend the memorial service.  She was a friend and business associate for close to 40 years from Broadview Water District and Westlands Water District to Water Wise. She was outspoken, kind, thoughtful and loved her family very much. I enjoyed our phone conversations, that at times would be close to an hour.  She will be missed, not only by her family, but all who knew her.

My deepest condolences to all of Dora’s family and her friends. I know you will miss her greatly. I remember her ease and joy of hosting at Westlands Water District where I briefly worked with her. 

I know the family and community are missing Dora Rosas.  She knew what she wanted out of life and wasn't afraid to ask for it.  She was very giving of herself.  She loved driving through orchards and talking to the farmers.  She loved helping them and baked wonderful goodies.  One time my friends came to visit in Fresno and we drove to Firebaugh where she served us breakfast burritos.  She was a fantastic cook.  I will miss her wonderfully bold and loving friendship.  She never forgot my birthday and made sure we celebrated it.  My condolences to friends and family who feel the huge loss of her presence.

I worked with Dora when she was working at Westlands Water District.  She was our water representative, and was a dear work friend.  Even after Dora left Westlands I stayed in touch with her, and on a rare occasion met her for lunch.  She was a loving person, and I know will be missed by all the people she was associated with both through her family life and her work relationships.  I was very sad to hear that she passed. I am saddened with the loss of our dear friend Dora, “Dorita”, “Dora the Explorer”. Gilbert and I met Dora at our place of employment nearly 15 years ago. Dora and Gilbert shared their childhood stories of their memories of Texas, the work in the field, and determined there was a distant relation between them. For every Raiders and Dodgers games, Dora often sent Gilbert text messages, gave him a call or dropped by to give him a collection she came across. When I met Dora, she welcomed me with a homemade burrito, a bag of candies and decorative napkins. She introduced herself as the person who takes care of everyone in the office with homemade treats and wanted to make sure she could continue to do so. She let me know the candies are for me to put in a candy jar so I also have a treat for anyone who came into my office. She went on to say that the napkins were just because she loved them and heard I like to have gatherings and thought she could get invited in the future. Over the years we became friends. Dora was always direct. She was honest, respectful, generous and kind. We shared a love for wine and Mexican culture and artifacts. I have many Mexican cultured gifts and artifacts, including decorative napkins from Dora that I will forever treasure. Over the years Dora (and her partner Al) became a part of my family and attended many of our family events. Dora’s absence has been a big loss and is still heartbreaking. Rest in Peace dear Dora. We will forever love you and always keep you alive in our memory.

I start with a saying:  Good Friends Are Like Angels: They Add Blessings to Life.  And, you my Dearest Friend did that for me, my family and everyone you touched.   I will truly miss you, but my thoughts are full of beautiful memories of the many times we cooked together for our families, a glass of wine here and there, the intense talks we had and most important, the ultimate respect we had for one another.  How we loved to laugh together!  I am so blessed that you were part of my life.  

I will be looking to the stars for when I see you again, we will resume just were we left off.  Rest in peace my dear friend!




Dora was a passionate and lively woman who had incredible initiative. We would frequently chat over the phone while I was conducting research on the Central Valley agricultural water market. She would tell me stories about how she would jump in the car to chase down farmers with signed agreements and checks to close deals and finish projects. Her enthusiasm when talking about her work made our calls one of the highlights of my job. Clearly, she was a woman who truly cared about her work and community. My deepest condolences to her colleagues, friends, and family.
