Alexander Louis Teixeira

He was raised on a farm in the river bottom area of Sanger, California and attended a Reedley elementary school in that area.

At the age of 16, Alex joined the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey on board the ship S.S. Pathfinder. He spent 7 months in Bristol Bay, Alaska as part of a crew making navigational maps.

After Alex returned from Alaska, he started racing 1940’s series hard tops at local Fresno area tracks.

When the Korean War broke out, Alex enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and spent 11 months in Korea with a mobile radar unit in 1951-1952.

After completing his enlistment with the Air Force, Alex returned to Fresno and attended Fresno State University, graduating in 1959 with a B.S. degree in business. He then became employed with the California State Employment Development Department as a Supervisor. He was employed by the State for 33 years, retiring in 1990.

Alex met his wife, Ione Greene shortly after his honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force and they were married for 65 wonderful years. They shared many adventures together such as motor homes, traveling, cruises, sports cars, hot rod show cars, dune buggies, dirt bikes, scuba diving, water skiing and boating.

Through the years, Alex and Ione would be seen at many car shows, showing their 1937 Ford Cabriolet hot rod. They enjoyed all of the people they associated with during that time.

Alex was very honored to be selected to accompany the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in September of 2016. He was happy to have the opportunity to go with his lifelong friend, who served with him in Korea, along with his son as a chaperone. They visited the war memorials and monuments and had an absolutely wonderful time.

Alex was a family man, loved by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. More than anything Alex enjoyed the time he spent with his family.

Alex is survived by his wife, Ione; children Janet Teixeira and her husband Anton Unger III, Jeff Teixeira and his wife Patricia; grandchildren Sheryl Hamilton and her husband Clint, Lynsi Cavazos and her husband Carlos, Lanae Teixeira, Alex Teixeira and Nicholas Dalton; and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Sally Teixeira Martin and her family.

Alex was preceded in death by his father, Louie Teixeira, stepmother, Verna Mae Teixeira and mother, Mary Mann.

Due to Covid restrictions, services will be closed to the public but will be available to view live through Zoom.
