Alex Maldonado was born on July 8, 1955, in Brooklyn New York, to the marriage of Justo and Adelina Maldonado. Alex accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was active in the youth ministry at Alpha and Omega Church in Brooklyn where his parents were active members. He was active in the church's music ministry and played the saxophone which would be an important part in his life long ministry. Alex felt the call of the Lord, on his life, to the ministry as a teenager and was often invited by local churches in the community to preach and lead their music programs.
Upon graduation from high school in 1973, Alex enrolled at Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. While a student at Central Bible College, he met and fell in love with the love of his life, Twilla Fullington. Twilla and Alex were married December 18, 1975. Twilla and Alex were the parents of two children, Nitza Lynn and Brian Alex.
Before entering full-time ministry, Alex served as pastor of the Spanish ministry at Central Assembly in Springfield, MO. He then pastored in Ellington and St. Louis, Missouri before moving to Altus, Oklahoma where he pastored Glad Tidings Assembly for 10 years. In 1999, Alex was called to pastor God's Family Church (GFC) in Fresno, California.
Alex believed in the importance of teaching children about the Lord. In June of 2007, GFC started the summer program, Camp KHAOS (Kids Having An Outrageous Summer). The following year, Apples of Gold preschool was established. There were only 9 children enrolled the first year. Twelve years later, there's a total of 191 children in attendance.
Pastor Alex also had a heart for missions. He participated in multiple evangelical trips to the Philippines, India, El Salvador and South East Asia. In 2005, he went to the Philippines with the team that celebrated the 20th Anniversary of Jesus For All Church, Cagagyan De Oro, Mindinao, He ministered on the "Fruit of the Spirit" as the other Conference speakers presented other works and theology of the Holy Spirit. The altars were filled with men and women seeking God as they were encouraged to grow in the grace and knowledge of God.
In the following years, Pastor Alex traveled 8 more times as part of Team Philippine Mission; preaching, teaching, inspiring, and motivating the local pastors to be faithful presenters of the Word of God. Again, year after year the altars were filled with praying, weeping tears of joy and sorrow, and even shouting as hundreds sought the Lord as Pastor Alex instructed. Only Eternity will reveal the blessing that the gentle servant Giant of a man, preacher and theologian brought to the Philippine Islands.
All who met or knew Alex quickly became aware of his keen sense of humor that was loved by everyone. He loved serving the Lord and leading everyone he met, to the Lord. Although he was in poor health in the last years of his life, he remained steadfast in his dedication to the church and his ministry.
On October 1, 2019, Alex entered into eternal rest in Jesus Christ. He leaves behind to cherish his memories; wife Twilla, daughter Nitza, son Brian, granddaughters: Emilee and Khloe, sister Yvette Smith, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, a host of Friends, and the members of God’s Family Church.
