He was born on August 15, 1953 in Garden City, Michigan.
Murrel proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps spending time in Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
Murrel was a longtime member of the Fremont Moose Lodge and the Fremont American Legion
Cassel Post # 257. He was happily married to Phyllis Ann (Horsley) on August 29, 1999, she
preceded him in death on December 3, 2023. Murrel and Phyllis enjoyed spending time together
drinking cold beer in their “chicken coop”, gong to the Moose Lodge, and seeing their children, and
grandchildren, and other family.
Murrel was a beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to
all, and he will be greatly missed.
He was a retired machinist.
Survivors include his children, Ami (Robert) Prugh, Corey (Meghan) Jackson, Mandy (David) LoCastro
all of Fort Wayne, Melissa (Jeff) Welch and Lindsey Jackson of Fremont, 3 stepsons Mark Gurik, John
Gurik and Luke (Ashton) Gurik of Coldwater, Michigan; brother William (Pam) Jackson and Nadean
“Dee” Jackson Fremont; mother, Betty Volkenand of Fremont, Indiana; 19 grandchildren and 11
great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Ann Jackson, his father, William Jackson Sr., his mother
Martha Jackson and his granddaughter Britny.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Fremont Moose Lodge #2387 on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 12 noon until 4 pm.
Military Honors to be held at 12 noon Saturday, January 25, 2025 at the Fremont Moose Lodge by members of the Fremont American Legion Cassel Post # 257 Color Guard and the US Marine Corps Honor Team.
