George C. "Sonny" Carlson Jr.

Sonny was born in Denver, Colorado on June 20, 1932 to Florence and George Carlson, and they preceded him in death.

Sonny graduated from Lakewood High School in Denver, where he was a 6’ 7” center on the basketball team.

He was happily married to Marcia G. McCurdy in 1954, and she preceded him in death in 2002.

In 1959 Marcia and Sonny moved to Granby, Colorado where they owned and operated Trail Mountain Ranches. While on the ranch Sonny built and operated Trail Mountain Ski Area. On winter weekends you could find him there teaching many local youngsters how to ski for the first time. He was also an excellent carpenter and craftsman and constructed and remodeled many projects during his lifetime. Sonny and Marcia retired to Arizona in 1984 until Marcia’s death, where they enjoyed many rounds of golf and great chuckwagon cookouts.

Survivors include sons, Randy Carlson of Grand Lake, Colorado, and Ron (Margaret) Carlson of Fremont, Indiana, a sister, Lou Ann Penry of Denver, Colorado, and four grandchildren, Michelle of Denver, Colorado, Brett of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Ronnie of Tampa, Florida, and Liz at home.

Memorial services will be held in Colorado for Mr. Carlson at a later time.
