Donald Gene Sutton

Donald Gene Sutton, 82, of Fremont, Indiana went home to the Lord surrounded by many of his loved ones on Monday, July 15, 2024. Don was born in Wabash, Indiana on January 28, 1942, a son of the late Helen L. Tudor (Overholtz) and Charles Sutton. Donald attended Ivy Tech where he gained the education needed to become a television repair man at Arkwrights until he started working on the Indiana Toll Road. He retired from there after 32 years of service. He married the love of his life, Barb, on July 26, 1968 at The Methodist Church in Ashley, Indiana. In his younger years, Don was a member of the Ashley-Hudson Fire Department where he also served as Fire Chief for several years. He was a proud member of the Land of Lakes Lions Club since October 1972 where he held many roles of leadership, with his last office serving as Treasurer. He spent countless hours assisting with the famous chicken cooks and setting up tents. Don and Barb also volunteered where they screened eyes for many preschool children in the community. He enjoyed watching IU basketball and old western movies, camping, traveling, antiquing, spending time with family, and was an avid collector of many interests. He thoroughly enjoyed attending his great grandchildren’s sporting events. Donald will be sadly missed by his wife of 56 years, Barbara J. Sutton ( Arnold), daughters Leisa ( Jerry) Drook, Malisia ( Michael) Exelby, Cathy Sutton, Cynthia ( Timothy) Crooks, sister Linda Baxter and family, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren and life- long friend, Jim Wyatt. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Carol Bickett (Sutton) and son-in-law Jeffrey Shaner. Visitation will be held from 5 pm until 7 pm Thursday, July 18, 2024 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana. A Lions Club Service will be held at the end of visitation on Thursday at 7 pm at the funeral home. Additional visitation will be held from 12 pm until 1 pm Friday at Beams Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1 pm Friday, July 19, 2024 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana. Pastor Rodney Snyder will officiate the service. Don will be laid to rest following services at Jamestown Cemetery, Fremont, Indiana. Memorials in Don's memory may be directed to Land of Lakes Lions Club for Leaderdog School, 1039 S.
