April was born on February 12, 1956 in Angola, Indiana, to James and Alice (Williams) Binkley. She was the second of Jim & Alice’s four children and dearly loved her siblings Steve, Wayne and Nancy who all lived in Ray, Indiana, across the street from their loving grandparents Carl & Flossie Binkley. The Binkley and Wynn families were inseparable growing up and April cherished time with her Aunt Lib, Uncle Ed and cousins, Jeff, Sheryl, Susan and Mark.
April had a soft spot for kids and animals. She was the Aunt that played hide & seek and took all the nieces and nephews trick or treating. April also took her son LJ on lots of bike rides to the Ice Cream shop in Fremont combining her loves of family, the outdoors and ice cream. If you are younger than April and grew up in Ray chances are she was your babysitter and her rate was $0.50 per hour one child or three. Once the kids were grown, April’s love spread to animals and she adopted the neighborhood cats recently resulting in a litter of kittens.
April holds the record of the longest employee at the Potawatomi Inn at Pokagon State Park as she dedicated 38 years. In her free time April enjoyed word searches, Christmas lights, music and television. April had the privilege of traveling to Graceland in Memphis, TN with her family and what everyone remembers most was her excitement and asking “someone please pinch me” because she couldn’t believe she was at Elvis Presley’s house. She also loved Christmas lights and her favorites could be found at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA where she exclaimed “whatever this cost, it was worth it”. And last; but, certainly not least she thoroughly enjoyed a good word search in her comfy PJ’s while watching her favorite television leading men, Walker Texas Ranger, Frank Regan in Blue Bloods and Jack Bartlett in Heartland from her recliner.
April was preceded in death by her father, James, her mother, Alice and her siblings, Steve and Wayne. She is survived by her beloved son, LJ Conley, her loving sister, Nancy Ward and many nieces and nephews. Today and forever, April flies free.
