Xingliang (William) Jing, beloved husband, father, and friend, peacefully passed away on September 27, 2024, following a long and brave battle with Parkinson's disease.
Born on October 11, 1942, to Pu You Jing and Mei Ying Zhou, Xingliang grew up in Shanghai, China, as the youngest of two sons. He graduated at the top of his class from Fudan University in 1965 and began his career as a teaching assistant at Tsinghua University. In 1969, he married the love of his life, Gefang Zhuang, and together they raised two daughters, Vivian and Jessica Jing.
In 1979, after earning his master's degree in physics from Jiaotong University, Xingliang chose to continue his academic career there, becoming an associate professor. In 1989, seeking better opportunities for his family, he transitioned to a research position at the University of California, San Diego. Wanting a faster pace of work, Xingliang eventually shifted to an engineering career, which took him from San Diego to Silicon Valley.
In Silicon Valley, Xingliang held roles of increasing scope and responsibility, including the research and development of top-line fiber optic components. He was fully devoted to his work, consistently demonstrating unwavering dedication and exceptional skill.
Xingliang was deeply committed to his family, guiding his children with both love and wisdom. He will be deeply missed by many, including his wife Gefang, and their two daughters, Vivian and Jessica Jing.
Humble and kind-hearted, Xingliang would have preferred gestures of kindness over extravagant displays. In lieu of flowers or monetary gifts, the family kindly suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Parkinson's Foundation in his honor at https://www.parkinson.org/
