Rochelle Gardner died at her home on Monday, May 1, 2017 after a brave battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her beloved son Matthew “Buddy” Lucas and is survived by her husband, Steven Gardner, her daughters, Bonnie Bugay and Jenni Lucas, her sister Robin Sablyak, and her parents Donald and Rose Hagans.
Rochelle devoted her life to taking care of her handicapped son until his death in 2007. Her love led her to decorate her yard for Halloween and Christmas so he could see the lights. This became something of a local tradition and she would devote weeks on end to prepping for the display.
Rochelle never met a stranger. She made quick friends with everyone she met, and made many lasting friendships. Her door was always open to friends and neighbors to come by and tell the latest gossip, or just laugh about the day’s events.
But most notable was her energy. She loved the outdoors and kept busy with everything from yardwork to fishing. She had a particular affinity for metal detecting and would proudly show off her treasures. She never rested, she was always moving. She was laughter, she was love. It’s poetic for the brightest candle to burn the fastest. She gave all she could to this world in a short amount of time and all she ever needed was a little smile. Rest in Peace, Rochelle. We love you.
The family will receive friends from 10:00am to 12:00pm on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service in Fredericksburg.
