Doris R Glidden

Virginia Doris Brasington Glidden, 95, passed away peacefully at Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Fredericksburg, VA, on October 31, 2023. Doris was born in 1928 in Burkes Garden, VA. She was the daughter of Joseph Rainey and Jeselyn Rainey. Doris’s two surviving siblings are Jean Merritt and Erlene Clayton (Tom). In 1953, Doris married John Brasington. John and Doris had three children: Bonnie McPhaul (Mac), Virginia Summers (Glenn) and June Firing (Eric). John, Bonnie, and June have all gone to be with the Lord. In 1989, Doris met Robert (Bob) Glidden and they married. With this marriage Doris gained three more children: Jane Sackett (Jim), Robert Glidden (Vicki) and Daniel Glidden (Tri). Doris and Bob loved to travel and spent many years doing so together. Bob passed away in 2012. Doris was a registered nurse who graduated from Duke University. She practiced in many different roles as a nurse throughout her career, with her last being the Director of Nursing for the Fredericksburg Area Practical Nursing Program. One of her greatest joys was her nine grandchildren: James Sackett, Jill Trotter, Fletcher McPhaul, Amy Bonnell, Becky Larsen, Katie Pifer, Yvonne Firing, Glenn Summers Jr, Renee Cano, Sherry, Jesse, and Daniel. She was also very proud to have 15 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. The family will have a memorial service on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Home, Fredericksburg, VA. There will be a time of visitation with the family at 10:30am with the service beginning at 11:30am. There will be a processional and graveside service at Quantico National Cemetery following at 2pm. At the conclusion of the graveside service the family would like to welcome all to a celebration of life reception at Ferry Farm Baptist Church in Fredericksburg, VA. In lieu of flowers please donate in Doris’s name to a hospice organization of choice, Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church or Palm Lake Christian Church in St. Petersburg, FL.
