Donald Erskine

Donald Alexander Erskine, age 82, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2022. Donald is survived by his wife of 55 years, Karen Toft Erskine of Fredericksburg; and his son, Thomas D. Erskine; his daughter, Kathryn Erskine Harvey and grandson, Alexander Harvey of Kitty Hawk, NC. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Margaret Erskine; and his sister, Doris Thoman. Don grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey. He was a graduate of William Patterson College where he was a founding member of the varsity soccer team. After Flight School in Pensacola he enjoyed a 20 year career as an officer in the United States Navy. Don had the time of his life seeing the world at the speed of sound as a naval aviator or from the deck of an aircraft carrier. Don retired from the Navy while at the Pentagon, but went on to a rewarding second career working for Naval contractors in Dahlgren, Virginia. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and was on the board of the Dahlgren Yacht Club. Don was always ready to go out on a boat or just sit on the dock for lunch. In retirement he enjoyed travel, and baseball, Go Nats! and could often be found taking it easy in the Outer Banks spending time with his grandson Alex, helping with homework or working on Boy Scout merit Badges.
