He was born to Sally (Williams) and Ransom Fraley on February 6, 1929. Jessie was predeceased by his wife of 14 years, Norma Jean Hicks. He was also predeceased by his former wife of 48 years, Nellie Hicks, the mother of his children.
Jessie accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior on October 6, 1956 and accepted the calling to preach in 1958. He faithfully preached and served in the ministry for over 66 years dying on the battlefield for his Lord. He impacted many lives during his ministry and served as Pastor for many churches in the Enterprise Baptist Association including Waterhole Enterprise Baptist, Newcombe Valley, Ironville, Hoods Creek and Grassy lick. Most recently, Jessie was an active member of the Living Word Missionary Baptist Church in Liberty Township, Ohio.
In 1952, Jessie started as a pipe fitter and a member of the Local 248 in Ashland, Kentucky. He retired in 1984. Beside church, he loved spending time with his family, boating/fishing and trap shooting.
He is survived by his daughter, Donna Jean Slavens and predeceased by his infant son, Leon, predeceased son Delbert and predeceased son in law, Donnie.
Jessie is also survived by his (4) Grandchildren: Jessica Williams, Ray (Brandy) Slavens, Kelli Lawrence and Anita (Zak) Bateman. Jessie also had (9) Great Grandchildren, and (4) Great great grandchildren.
His family would like to give a special thanks to his niece, Bernice Claxon for her care and support during this time and his church family at Living Word for all of their love, prayers and support. Also, many thanks to Nurse Loraine, Nurse Nate and all of the caring staff at Ohio’s Hospice.
Visitation for Brother Jess will be on Thursday November 3, 2022 from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at the Living Word Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral will immediately follow at 6:00 pm. Burial will take place in Sandy Hook, Kentucky on Saturday November 5, 2022 with a visitation prior, times to be confirmed.
