Scott was born at home in the family farmhouse on April 23, 1953. He was a lifelong resident of Franklin, New York where he graduated from Franklin Central School in 1971 and then joined the Merchant Marines as an Electrical Cadet. This experience allowed him to join his father and brother under Taggart & Sons and to further learn the industrial skills he would utilize for years to come.
Scott was a past member of the Franklin Emergency Squad but as his family and business became an integral part of his life, he would continue to help out and give back to the community by donating his electrical expertise and services to a variety of charities and local businesses.
Scott met Patti LePinnet from Walton, NY in 1975 and they were married on July 12, 1980 and had four wonderful children.
Building upon the foundation that John and Anne Taggart created, Scott and Patti purchased the company from his parents in 1980 and together they would grow the 2nd generation of Taggart Electric. Scott selected the “Eagle” as his company logo, as a symbol of Integrity, Quality and Loyalty that Scott would give to each of his customers. In the past few years they have been successfully transitioning the business to their sons.
Outside of work, Scott also took immense pride in his children and grandchildren. Living close was a blessing as each of the them would visit and Pop-Pop would stop whatever he was doing to spend time with them. Whether it was catching frogs, riding down to his shop to check out the tractors or play in the sand box that he built for his little “visitors”. Scott had a special bond with his daughter Kelly, who was at his side throughout his stay in the ICU at Sloan. He was proud that she pursued teaching and coaching which added to their passion of sports and watching the Women’s UCONN Basketball team every season.
To know Scott was to understand his love for his family, his work and the outdoors. Whether that was watching his four kids playing basketball, soccer or attending some other sporting event. He especially enjoyed his time on the tractor bush-hogging fields, or marinating London Broils for the upcoming BBQ or when he was surrounded by his dogs curled up at his side watching a Sunday football game.
Scott was loved by all who knew him, a husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and a friend. He is survived by his beloved wife Patti, his three sons, Scott A. Taggart II (Jessica), Matthew Taggart (Emily) and Joshua Taggart (Katie) and Daughter Kelly Taggart all from Franklin.
Scott and Patti are blessed with five grandsons and three beautiful granddaughters.
Scott also leaves behind his brothers Jack Taggart, James Taggart, Joseph Taggart, Jeffrey Taggart, Peter Taggart and his sister Kathy Zahar and their families.
Scott spent several months at Sloan Kettering in New York City on the 12th floor and the family would like to thank the nurses for their compassion and care during this difficult time.
A memorial service to honor his life will take place on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 1 pm at the Franklin Fire Hall, 351 Main St, Franklin, NY 13775. A Celebration of Life gathering will take place immediately following from 2pm to 5 pm.
