Steve was born October 18, 1947 to Elvin and Pearl (Larson) Underdahl in Minot North Dakota. He moved to Colorado in 1963. After high school he enlisted into the United States Air Force as an airborne radio operator until 1971. He served a tour to Vietnam, for which he was awarded the Distinguished Fly Cross. After the service he married Sharan Kay Buehlhorn on February 19, 1972. Together they have a son Scott and daughter Shellee.
Steve loved and supported his family greatly. He assistant coached for Scott’s little league and shuttled & cheered Shellee in gymnastics. He worked for Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8 for 34 years before retiring in 2010. In retirement Steve was given new purpose with the birth of his first granddaughter, Braelyn in 2009 and second, Lily in 2014, to whom he became affectionately known as ‘Papa’. Steve also reconnected with his friends from his unit in the Air Force, the 6994th Security Squadron, ‘Electric Goons’. He and Sharan enjoyed traveling to attended unit reunion gatherings each year. Steve had a distinct sense of humor, a casual personality and was easy to conversate with almost everyone he’d meet. He was also a diehard Denver Broncos fan.
Steve was preceded in death by his father Elvin and mother Pearl. He is survived and missed by his wife Sharan, his children Scott & Shellee, his grandchildren Braelyn & Lily, his brother John and sisters Julie and Gail.
Steve wasn’t much for being formal. For this the family will be holding a casual gathering to celebrate and say goodbye to Steve for friends and family at his house in Fountain: Saturday, September 14, between 11-2. Stop by anytime during. Contact the family if directions are needed.
