Jim is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elaine. Daughter and son-in-law Susan and Matt of Fountain, CO; brother and his wife, Rodney and Dianne Hanson of Minnetonka, MN, and sister Barbara Hanson of Hopkins, MN.
After retiring from the Army, Jim did real estate, home improvement, and later worked for the Department of Logistics and Department of Public works at Fort Carson. Believing in wildlife conservation, Jim became a life member and active volunteer for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, also becoming life member of the Mule Deer Fountain, The Retired Enlisted Association, VFW, and other organizations. Along with his friends, Jim co-founded the Red Creek Hunting Club. Club hunters came from coast to coast and border to border. From just a few to as many as 25 hunters each October to hunt and for male bonding.
Jim enjoyed working with wood, making cabinets, custom gun stocks, and anything else done with wood. Jim marked items off his bucket list – cruise to Alaska (twice), attended NASCAR race in Phoenix. AZ, and the Barrett Jackson Auto Auction in Scottsdale, AZ, and visited the national headquarters of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation in Missoula, MT.
