Dale Cunningham was born in Point, Texas, on February 28th, 1930. He joined the Army after school, and he met his future wife, Flora, toward the end of his enlistment. They were married in Salida, Colorado, in 1953. From there they moved to Pennsylvania, where Dale worked in a steel mill.
Later they moved to Dallas, where Dale drove a delivery truck for Coca-Cola. They started a family, and had three children before moving to Colorado Springs, Colorado. Dale again worked for Coca-Cola, then got a job with the city bus company, where he stayed until his retirement in 1992. Then, he and Flora spent many years traveling across the United States, tending their garden, and hosting their five grandchildren.
Dale will be remembered for his kindness, his encyclopedic memory for highways and good restaurants across the country, the endless games of solitaire at the kitchen table, and the way he’d chuckle at a good joke. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Dale Cunningham was surrounded by family when he passed away on Thursday, December 27th, 2018. He was 88 years old. Dale was preceded in death by his grandson Jacob in 2011. He is survived by his wife, Flora, his son Will and daughter in-law Brenda, daughter Karen and son in-law Vance, and daughter Laurie and son in-law Ed, along with four grandchildren, Andrea, Samantha, Kyle, and Justin, and a great-granddaughter, Stella.
Rosary will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 10th, at St Dominic Church in Security-Widefield with Memorial Mass to follow at 11:30 am. All are welcome.
