William David Mead, Sr., age 70, born October 19, 1948 in Kellogg, Idaho, passed away on January 18, 2019 in North Richland Hills, Texas. William was born to Joseph Frank Mead, Jr. and Grace Emily (Pat) (Sanderson) Mead.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 2:00p.m. at North Park Baptist Church, located at 7025 Mid-Cities Blvd., North Richland Hills, TX 76182.
Born in Kellogg, Idaho, William, lovingly known to many as Bill, moved to Spokane, Washington as a child. He grew up helping his parents with the neighborhood store they owned. In High School, he played the tuba in the marching band. He later completed his GED and completed one year of college in Pre-Law.
Bill served his country from 1967 to 1970 with the US Marines. He served as a Sgt., E-5 Rifleman and Sniper during two combat tours in Vietnam. Bill was a recipient of a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Vietnam Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Rifle
Expert Badge, Combat Action Ribbon, and two Good Conduct Medals.
Bill was self-employed with a Tire business in Spokane, Washington, Mead’s Auto Mart in Abilene, Texas, and Mr. Bill’s Home Maintenance in North Richland Hills, TX. Throughout his career, he received several awards, certifications and licenses for AC/Heat, Pool, Apt. and Home Maintenance.
He married his wife of 28 years, Caroline Sue Vaughn, in 1982 & renewed their vows in 1992.
Bill and Caroline are long time members of North Park Baptist Church of North Richland Hills. He took much pride in being a veteran, and was a member of the American Legion Post 855 Haltom City, Texas.
For fun and relaxation, Bill loved to play Golf and Pool and enjoyed watching football and old westerns. He could often be found listening to his music cd collection and doing things that were hands on such as remodeling his home and building furniture. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend will be dearly missed.
His parents; sibling, Dawn Mead; paternal grandparents Joseph Frank Mead Sr. and Pearl Jane Debolt; maternal grandparents, William (Willie) Sanderson and Grace Maude Wilson and the mother of his son, Connie Sue O’Neil, precede Bill in death.
William is survived by his wife, Caroline (Vaughn) Mead; his 2 sons, William David Mead Jr. and Joseph Kenneth Mead and a step-son Christopher Lee Parker; sister, Sue Ann Mead ; 7 grandchildren, Kaylee and Noah Mead, Tyler and Matthew Parker, Justin, Lanee, and Hunter Scott; 1 great-grandchild; nieces, Emily Jayne Mead, Cathi Mead, Cindy Marie (Julian) Jordan; nephews, Mike Julian and Mark Julian and other relatives and friends.
