Beloved Patriarch, Travis Ray Hill went home to be with the Lord on September 14, 2014 in Arlington Texas at the age 81. He is survived by his sister Tressie Dotson, children, Ken and Rodney Hill, Lisa Courtney and Mandy Vargas, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. And preceded in death by his wife Earline Hill, and siblings Paul and J.E. Hill, Dean Guthrie, Edith Stovall and Colleen Williams.
Travis was born on November 3, 1932 in Nauvoo, Alabama. He worked the cotton fields and eventually served his country in the Korean war as a corporal in the Army. In 1955 he moved to Texas and three years later married Darlene Hill. They had four wonderful children together and divorced in 1971. He later married his sweetheart, Earline Hill and the two went on to be married for 25 years.
He was a man of God who worked with his hands, and a family man in the truest sense of the word. He was best known for his bountiful garden, always working the land and quick to generously share his harvest. Travis was a craftsman, often found working with wood or fixing bicycles in his garage when he wasn’t out riding around on his own ten-speed. He was a lover of westerns, ice cream and bluegrass music, and the best neighbor you could ask for. He was humble, a born teacher, and a giver, warm and gentle as he was strong.
A funeral is scheduled for Thursday September 18th, 10am at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Home. All are welcome to come and celebrate his life. Donations may be made in his honor to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
