Steven Lawrence Woodward

The family will celebrate Steven’s life in a Memorial Service on June 21, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Chapel. He will be laid to rest at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery at 2:15 p.m. following the service.

Steven was born in Sikeston, Mo. on August 7, 1949 to parents, Lawrence Gordon “Jake” and Sybil E. Havener Woodward. As a child he always enjoyed spending time with his father. Steven’s favorite memories was participating with the Boy Scouts and camping with his troop. In his youth, he told stories about his sister Jane and his best friends Dennis and Bo.

Steven proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, for 12 years. Some of his proudest accomplishments during his Military Career were earning two Bronze Stars, an Airman Medal, Alaskan Warfare School, completing his French Commando training and assignment to the 101st Airborne.

In his early adulthood, he further developed his relationship with his friend Selena “Snookey”, whom he had met from his adolescent years. They dated and later married in 1969.

Steven was proud of the arrival of his daughters, Renee’ and Janie Sue, and later the arrival of his grandchildren, Steven Scott, Krystal, Kiana “KC”, and his adopted son, Johnathan. The light of his eyes had recently been his great grandson, Creighton. Steven’s faith and service to others were very important, he was a Trustee of his Church, First United Methodist Church of Watauga, and enjoyed participating in a variety of church activities. During his down time, Steven enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, scuba diving, biking, snow skiing, traveling, and cruising. He also enjoyed Cowboy’s games, college football, Johnathan’s football at Richland Middle School, Odessa High School football and Renee’ and Johnathan’s band activities. Steven was anxious to find Johnathan on New Year's Day when Johnathan’s band marched in the Rose Bowl Parade and watching a popular TV show to find Renee’ s brief appearance in an episode.

Steven was very proud to be involved with Johnathan’s Eagle Scout Project and Boy Scouts. As long as family surrounded Steven, he was happy. Beloved husband, brother-in-law, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend will be dearly missed.

Steven is preceded in death by his parents, Sybil and Lawrence Gordon "Jake” Woodward, sister, Janie “Jane” Dewitt.

Steven is survived by his wife, Selena “Snookey” Woodward; daughters, Janie Sue, Renee’ Woodward; son-in- law, Tim Trussell; son, Johnathan; grandchildren, Steven Scott, Krystal, KC, Kayla; great-grandson, Creighton; brother-in-law, Lynell DeWitt; in-laws, Mike and Lu Boshell, Mary and Bill Moore, Tommie and Robert Crenshaw, Sarah and Mike Henson, Vivian and George Holland; good friends, Marcia and Jason Ward; nieces, nephews; his church family and other relatives and friends.
