Richard was born in Cleburne on August 19, 1938. He grew up in Cleburne and attended Booker T. Washington, where he graduated as the class salutatorian. Richard loved Cleburne and eventually came home to live there after retiring from the United States Air Force, where he served as an Aircraft Crash and Rescue Firefighter. His 20 years of distinguished service in the Air Force included a tour of duty in the Vietnam War and service overseas in South Korea, culminating as an Assistant Fire Chief. After his career in the Air Force, Richard worked at Brown and Root for over 13 years as an Assistant Fire Chief and later worked for 8 years in the local Walmart’s sporting goods department. Richard enjoyed serving as a deacon in the Resurrection Lighthouse Ministries church. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching westerns, Cowboys football, and spending time with family and friends.
Richard is predeceased by his mother Pinkie Lee Troy, his father Lee Troy, his brother John Troy, and his son Richard Lee Troy, Jr. He is survived by his wife Kwang Troy, his son Lee Troy, and his daughters Marilyn Troy and Patricia Byrd (Chris). He has six grandchildren: Latoya, Celine (James), Devontre (Jessica), CJ, Jakob, and Joseph. His great grandchildren are JJ, Nethaniael, and Elijah.
Richard was a man of faith, devoted husband, loving father, provider, and faithful friend who will be dearly missed and always remembered.
We request that all of Richard’s friends and loved ones join us in celebrating his beautiful life. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 10th from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth, TX 76134. Following visitation, funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Interment is scheduled for Tuesday, September 14th at 2:30 p.m. at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211.
