She was born in Ft. Worth, Texas on January 10, 1928 and grew up during the Great Depression. She graduated from Polytechnic High School and lived in Texas her entire life. Nelda met her beloved husband, Ray, on a New Year’s Eve blind date in 1945 after his return home from serving in World War II. They were married on September 6, 1946 and grew their beautiful family to include 4 children, 7 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
After achieving her teaching certificate, Nelda began working for Keller ISD as a special education teacher. A few years later, she received her Masters in Counseling and worked for the Ft. Worth ISD as a home school coordinator until her retirement. As a devout Christian, she proudly served in many volunteer positions in her church and community.
Nelda is proceeded in death by her husband, Raymond Goodwin, Jr., and her daughter Susan Pate. She is survived by her daughters Linda Parish, Janet Gudbjartsson, and Tammy Harris, her grandchildren Chris Pate, Dana Martin, Angie Masters, Cliff Harris, Katie Herweck, Clay Harris, Carly Vozeh, her brothers Leonard Cain and Ralph Cain, and 18 great-grandchildren.
