Nancy Winton was born June 7, 1948 in Fort Worth Texas, the daughter of William and Virginia King. She was their eldest child, joined by brother Don King eight years later. Nancy’s memories of childhood were of simple times, going to visit her grandmother on the farm, making mud pies in the back yard, and playing with her brother.
Virginia and her husband separated and she worked as a psychiatric nurse to support her family. Nancy became like a second mother to Don, taking care of him when Virginia was away.
Nancy married Jerry Winton on June 2, 1969. Nancy studied to become a registered nurse and helped support the young couple while Jerry earned his degree as an engineer.
Once Jerry graduated and began to provide for the family, Nancy became a homemaker. She had a child, Cindy, in 1976. Her son Stephen was born in 1978. Nancy was the best mother to her children. She stayed at home, played with them, and made sure they were always safe. Her son Stephen recalls how she would always take him to the library and read to him. Nancy went back to work as a nurse when times became tough for the family, working the night shift at a psychiatric hospital. Nancy gave everything she had to her family, never asking for anything in return.
Nancy faced much adversity in the latter years of her life. Her daughter Cindy required constant care due to an illness. Most of Nancy’s time and energy went to caring for Cindy in her final years. Nancy suffered from diabetes and congestive heart failure. She lost her husband Jerry to a vehicular homicide shortly before her death. Nevertheless, Nancy never complained. She had faith in God and always tried to do what was right.
Nancy finally found peace on August 28, 2011. She is survived by her brother Don, her cousins Doyle and Darlene, and her children Cindy and Stephen, and grandchildren James and Paloma Winton. Nancy was truly an angel, never caring for herself and only for others. Her kindness will always be remembered by those who knew her.
