Michael John Shropshire

A Vigil Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 7, at St. Rita Catholic Church, 5550 E. Lancaster Ave, Fort Worth, Texas 76112, with a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., with Monsignor Joseph Pemberton officiating. Burial to follow at Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery.

Michael was born in Amarillo, Texas to Chuck and Lorraine Shropshire on August 30, 1949. He graduated from Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas in 1967 and Southern Methodist University, Dallas, in 1971. Michael married Barbara Gantt on March 18, 1972, at Saint Rita Catholic Church, Dallas, Texas. He worked as the Human Resources Manager for Darr Equipment Co. for 35 years. Michael enjoyed playing golf with his daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren especially in Hawaii and made a valiant effort to play every golf course in the world. One of his greatest achievements was being called “Mr. Mike” while volunteering to teach three-year-olds at Saint Rita Sunday School for seven years.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Katherine Elizabeth; his parents, Chuck and Lorraine; his brother, David, and his sister, Janet Sark; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clint and Ruth Gantt; and his brothers-in-law, Doug Allday and Larry Gantt.

Michael is survived by his wife Barbara; their daughter, Anne Vanzant, her husband, Timberon Vanzant and their children, Gabriel Timberon, Jude Lyons and Katherine Quinn; his brother, Dan Shropshire; his sisters, Nancy Akeroyd and Diane Sullivan; brothers-in-law, Bob Sark, Tom Sullivan and Randy Munson; sisters-in-law, Patricia Munson, Linda Georges, Patsy Shropshire, and Pam Gantt; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Timberon Vanzant, Curt Allday, Clint Allday, Daniel Shropshire, Steve Shropshire, Mike Shropshire, Bobby Gantt, and James Gantt.

“I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7.

The family of Michael wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the medical and support staff of Baylor All Saints Hospital Downtown Intensive Care Unit and Ignite Medical Resort of Fort Worth, as well as friends, and colleagues who ministered to Michael and supported us during the last months of his life.
