NEWARK-Mary Jo Worthington,91,retired school teacher, passed away Monday, November 25, 2019 in Decatur.
Visitation: 3-5pm Sunday, December 1, 2019 at Laurel Land Funeral Home.
Service: 12:30 pm on Monday in Laurel Land Chapel of Chimes
Mary Jo taught school for over 20 years in Newark and Boyd elementary schools. She was the favorite teacher of numerous students who even to this day continue to voice that sentiment. She was a member of First Baptist Church Newark for 60 years. Her kind, gracious and positive demeanor are an outflow of her often stated belief, "God is in His heaven and all is right with the world."
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Worthington and her son, Tim Worthington; her brother, Edward Hajek and her sister, Jeanene Richardson.
Survivors: Daughters, Julie Self and husband, Lynn, of Azle and Patia Moncrief and husband, Carey, of Newark; grandchildren, Jessica Ramey, Lana Worthington, Joshua Worthington and Chanlor Fresh; 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchildren. Sisters, Juliet Taylor and Norma Daniel of Ft. Worth; Helen McDonald and Sharon Matzner of Burleson; brothers, Wilbur Hajek of Lebanon, TN and Ted Hajek and wife, Judy, of Burleson; numerous nieces and nephews and those who called her grandmother because she welcomed them as her family.
