Mrs. Mary Ann Lewis

Mary Ann Henry- Lewis was born on June 1,1941 in Hawkins TX to Judson W. and Mildred Mayodie Henry. Eloquently known as "Tootie" She was the seventh of eighth children. She accepted Christ at an early age. As a child growing up in East Texas she attended Hawkins Colored Schools when she graduated from high school in 1959 it later became Hawkins High School. She was very active in sport activities which included Basketball where she played a point guard and was proud to wear the #4 jersey on the team, and Tennis where she played along side with her baby sister Joyce in many games she also had the chance to play with the legendary player Arthur Ashe. She attended Jarvis Christian College which is now Jarvis Christian University where she received a BA in Religious and minor Studies and Education. Following graduation from Jarvis in 1963 she moved to Fort Worth with Reverend Paul and Naomi Sims to pursue her education at Brite Divinity School at (T.C.U). Texas Christian University. That's where she met the love of her life Bobby James Lewis they were married on December 26,1964 in her parents house in Hawkins Texas. They were married for 59 years. And in that union two children were born Eric James Lewis and Darla Kaye Lewis.

After graduation she was employed by Brite Divinity School where she worked in the Religious Studies department for 15 years, Then the Educational Service Center Region 11 for 20 years. Followed by her passion she loved teaching. Where she was employed with the F.W.I.S.D. for over 30 years upon resigning due to her health.

She found her church home at East Annie Street Christian Church and later renamed Community Christian Church. Mary was an active member for over 60 years and involved in many activities such as an usher, a deaconess, choir member and she loved to sing and also secretarial duties and responsibilities. She was also apart of the (DWM) Disciples Women's Ministry where she served in this ministry of the church.

She loved her church family so much it was her second home.

Mary departed from her earthly vessel on Monday July 22, 2024 with her daughter by her side. She is preceded in death by her parents: siblings; Judson Henry Jr., Mattie Sue Henry-Henson, James Otis Henry

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: (her loving and faithful husband of 59 years) Bobby James Lewis (son) Eric James Lewis, (daughter) Darla Kaye Lewis, (stepchildren) Robert Lewis (Austin TX), Richard Lewis, Sharon Lewis, and Gregory Lewis (Fort Worth TX), (Grand-children) Jazmin Kaye Lewis, Cierra Lewis, Jailen Guptin, and Erin Nicole Lewis. (siblings) Dollye Alston (Pflugerville TX), Reverend Derry C. Henry (sister in law Ruby)(Murphy TX), Clara Kay and Joyce Holt (Hawkins TX), and an Aunt Christene Wright (Tyler TX) along with a host of nieces and nephews.
