Major Byrd was born on January 3, 1935 to Elmer K. Byrd and Eleanor Byrd in Crawford, TX. He graduated from I.M. Terrell High School class of 1953. After graduation, he entered the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in various states, as well as overseas. During his tour of duty, he worked as a pilot instructor. He retired in August 1977. He then took a job as a computer technician before again retiring in 2009.
He leaves to cherish his memory his aunt, Bobbie Majors, his children, Barbara Gonzalez, Deborah Byrd West (Marvin), Marie Byrd, Sharon Goodacre, H.L. Lewis, Steven Pitts, and Johnny Griffin (Cassandra). He also leaves grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
