Lorinda Lea Webb Bender was born on February 29, 1948, in Wichita Falls, Texas and passed from her earthly life on November 18, 2023, in Abilene, Texas surrounded by loved ones. Lorinda was born to Geneva and Charles Lee Webb, Jr. As a child in a military family, she lived in Texas, Pennsylvania, Alaska, Arizona, Florida, ending up back in Texas for high school. She graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1966 and went on to attend The University of Texas, proudly graduating in 1970 with a degree in English. After graduation, she met the love of her life. After eight short weeks of courtship, she married Jay Bender. She followed Jay around the country as he worked in the world of finance, moving from Texas, to Arizona, back to Texas and then to Edina, Minnesota where they lived until Jay’s death in 1993. After the passing of Jay, Lorinda moved back to Fort Worth, Texas to be near family and friends.
Having been a military daughter, Lorinda developed a love for travel that she pursued throughout her life. Lorinda was a major sports enthusiast, passionately supporting the Cowboys, Rangers and her beloved Longhorns. Family was very important to Lorinda, and she rarely missed a family event. She enjoyed playing cards and sharing memories at reunions, birthdays, anniversaries, basically any excuse to get together.
She was a member of the Western Hills Church of Christ, where she worshiped for many years. She was a very charitable and generous person, contributing to many charities throughout the years.
She is preceded in death by her husband Jay Bender and her parents, Geneva and Charles Webb, Jr. She is survived by her son, Brian Bender and wife Brooke of Bonaire, Georgia, her daughter Elizabeth Smearer and husband James of Rockwall, Texas, three grandchildren, Brylee Bender of Birmingham, Alabama, Brant and Brenna Bender of Bonaire, Georgia, sister Sharon Bundy and husband Dale of Throckmorton, Texas, brother Charles Webb and wife Jan of Post, Texas, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Wounded Warriors Foundation or a charity of your choice.
A visitation for Lorinda will be held Friday, November 24, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Laurel Land Funeral Home of Fort Worth, 7100 CROWLEY RD, FORT WORTH, TX 76134. A funeral service will occur Friday, November 24, 2023 at 2:00 PM, 7100 CROWLEY RD, FORT WORTH, TX 76134. A committal service will occur Friday, November 24, 2023 at 3:00 PM, 7100 CROWLEY RD, FORT WORTH, TX 76134.
