Karen was born on May 17, 1956 in Lake Charles, Louisiana to Dave and Eva Ray (Busby) Guillory. After graduating from Alfred M. Barbe High School in 1974, Karen attended McNeese State University from 1974-1978 and majored in Music Education. On July 27, 1979, she married Thomas A. Blakeney. They raised a son, Scott Thomas, and a daughter, Sarah Nicole, in Fort Worth, TX.
Karen had a passion for all things music, art, and crafts. This included singing, playing the piano, and leading the children’s choir at Alsbury Baptist Church. She loved many music genres, and among her favorite artists were Fernando Ortega, Jim Brickman, Joseph Rojo, Spencer Brewer, Mannheim Steamroller, and Yanni. Karen loved many different craft activities, especially making scrapbook pages to show off family photos and personalized cards. She also earned certifications in photography and digital photo editing through UTA and enjoyed doing nature photography, weddings, graduations, and newborn pictures.
From 2005-2020, she worked as an Accounting Clerk at RCL Services Group in Benbrook, TX, where she made many close friends. Previously, she worked for SkiHi Enterprises and Mutual of Omaha.
Karen is preceded in death by her father, Julian David “Dave” Guillory. Survivors include her mother, Eva Ray (Busby) Guillory; three brothers, David B. Guillory, Douglas R. Guillory, and Bryan K. Guillory; two children, Scott Thomas Blakeney and Sarah Nicole Blakeney; and two grandchildren, who she took special delight in visiting and spoiling, Clayton and Dakota Blakeney.
A funeral service for Karen will be held Monday, July 18, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth, TX 76134.
Interment will follow at Laurel Land Memorial Park, with a reception following at the funeral home.
