John Robert Black, 86, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2022. Funeral service will be held Thursday, April 28th at 10:00 am, at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Home. Visitation will be the evening prior from 6-8pm, April 27th.
John was born August 9, 1935 in Fort Worth to Charles and Myrtle Ann Black. He grew up in Fort Worth and attended Sagamore Hill Elementary School, Meadowbrook Middle School, Polytechnic High School (Class of 1954), and Lamar University. In recent times, he looked forward to riding in the Poly High School homecoming parade each year. John spent his full career of 52 years with Thornton Industries, rising to the role of company president. John had a love for motorcycles and cars from an early age. Many weekends were spent riding dirt bikes with friends. But his pride and joy was his 1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe automobile, which he enjoyed displaying at local car shows, often bringing home honors. His love of the cool mountain air of Red River, NM, family vacations, Mexican Inn enchiladas, holidays spent at home, and his generosity with others (especially grandchildren) were all things we will remember and cherish about him. He loved all animals with great passion. If you were a dog or cat in John's home, you were the luckiest pet on earth.
John is survived by his wife, Jo Catherine; his daughters, Susan Cahalan (Tim), Joyce Bowen (Mark), and Julie Harlan (John); step-children Cathy Nevans, Stephanie Barnes (Blake), and John Lee; and sister Cheryl Price. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren; Katie, Jenny, Jared, Nicole, Kyle, Troy, Garrett, Christopher, Autumn, Raygen, Katherine (Kashif), and Kendall.
The family requests those that wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to Meadowbrook-Poly United Methodist Church, Fort Worth, Texas.
