James "Jim" L. Monahan, 76, passed away at his home in Fort Worth on Friday, September 2nd, after a lengthy battle with colon cancer. Jim was born on January 19, 1940 in Pittsburg, Kansas into a large, tight knit Irish-Italian family and had an idyllic childhood complete with family gatherings, squirrel hunting and fishing holes. He enlisted into the Air Force in July 1961 to see the world, which, unfortunately, included Vietnam. During a posting in Taiwan, he met and married the love of his life, Ching Yueh, and together they raised their two children moving frequently until settling in Texas in 1981. After retiring from the military, Jim worked at the post office until 2005 interacting with a colorful cast of characters whose stories he enjoyed. In the last decade of his life, when he wasn't trying to buy every possible noise-making toy for his grandchildren, watching sports or baking, he enjoyed the company of his friends and neighbors. The Monahan family is especially thankful for the friendship, love and support of Marcia Holweger, the Bekker family, and the Harris family. Jim was a strong and humble man, an avid reader, devoted husband and father, and a doting grandfather. His death, like his life, was on his own terms and his family is grateful that he is now at peace. He was preceded in death by his wife Ching Yueh in 2005, his parents John and Mary Monahan, and his twin brother Joseph. He is survived by his son John, his wife Lise and their children Amanda, Alec and Julia, his daughter Mary Katherine, her husband Murphy, and their children Silvia and Andrew, his brother John and his wife Charlotte, his sister Marilyn and her husband Mark, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your favorite charity in honor of Jim.
