Gordon Richard Cox, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on Thursday afternoon June 16, 2022. He was born April 6, 1940, in Cunningham, Texas to parents Edwin and Velma Cox.
Gordon attended and graduated from East Texas State University, where he served as Sigma Phi Epsilon president from 1962 to 1963. He earned a BBA in Accounting and an MBA in Management, graduating in 1964. Gordon worked for forty-five years in government service, employed by both the IRS and Security Exchange Commission, before retiring in April of 2006. He served on the Alvarado ISD school board for fifteen years in various roles, including president, and served the First Baptist Church of Alvarado as treasurer and deacon for twenty years.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Jan Cox, of Alvarado, TX; daughters, Sara Wardle and Meredith Conlin; sons, Kyle and Dustin Cox; grandchildren, Logan, Connor, Eleanore, Ethan, and Katie; sister, Mary Ann Gaylord and brother, Morris Cox.
