Evelyn was born in Fort Worth to Joel T. and Mamie Jones on January 28, 1928. She loved her childhood and thought “life was a ball.” She graduated from RL Paschal High School. She married Claude L. Fox on August 15, 1946, in Dallas Texas. They had four children. Evelyn loved being a mother. After their divorce in 1963, she graduated from Brantley Draughon Business College with a 2-year Accounting degree. As a single mother of four, she worked at various companies as a Bookkeeper and Payroll Supervisor to support her family. In 1969, she married Robert Alvey who had 2 daughters. The marriage only lasted a short time. In 1975, she married Curtis Petty who had a son and daughter.
Evelyn always loved children and playing any kind of game. All children in the family, including cousins, nieces and nephews, remember her spending time with them and making them feel special. She loved dancing, music, bowling, driving her car, and being on the water. Many friends and family members recall fun times in her boat on Texas lakes. As the family videographer she made hundreds of hours of home movies. She was a very generous and thoughtful person who loved giving presents and Hallmark cards.
Throughout her life she maintained a positive outlook, a beautiful and welcoming smile, and a loving attitude toward others. She became an entrepreneur, owning an office supply store, a convenience store, and a deli. She moved to the Denver area in 1994 to be close to family. After her retirement, she was babysitter, bookkeeper, chauffeur, errand runner, and general helper to all who needed it. In her later years, she worked on her movies and photo albums, played games on her computer, and enjoyed puzzles.
