This is so sad to hear. I only knew Doug for a short time and he was a very sweet, caring man. My heart goes out to all of Doug's family and children. May God heal your hearts, and know he is in a better place, and one day you will get to be together again. My love to all, and my condolences. You all will be in my prayers. We loved Doug to. Fond Memories with Doug Bishop,  
       Dear family and friends of Doug.  Doug and I had a many great times over the last few years. He was a great friend and  I will miss him a lot.  May I share some of the adventures we had.  
 I have known Doug since I met him at the Baptist church near home.  I remember he always enjoyed being part if the church choir. He was very gifted in music and song. And very good at playing the guitar and banjo.  Many times he would bring his banjo over and play blue grass music. His banjo was among his favorite possessions.  Every one that heard him play enjoyed the music.  My dad visited here a few years ago and they had a grand time making music  in the living room.    
        A little  later that we got together to take some weekend drives.  He and I would go out to the countryside looking around at property.  There was one spot that I made an offer on, but Doug said it was a big mistake.  About 2 months later when the heat of the summer set in, the area looked so much different that I was glad Doug said what he did.  Doug had a Ag degree that came in very handy.  It was a  little while later we were looking NE of here and came across a nice place, Doug and I liked it so much we went back a few more times.  Later as we walked around the wooded area Doug said LOOKOUT.  And pointed to a poisonous snake I just stepped over.  His eye sight was always a lot better than mine.  And speaking of eye sight, I would be driving most of the time but some times got to looking away form the road.  Many times Doug would say WATCHOUT  as I was about to go off to the side.  Three time we did get stuck in the soft dirt.  Most times Doug would get into the truck bed and jump up and down while I gunned it.  We usually go out just a little dirty for the day.  
      When Doug got his job at the Home Depot he was so excited.  He started out at the pro desk but later moved to the appliance dept.  He loved what he did there.  He loved the customers and the fellow coworkers.  He was very concerned that he would meet his sales goals.  But most of the time he far surpassed  them.   And many times he was amazed he got a bonus for his sales being so good.  He spoke highly of everyone there.  He had a special fondness for a retired foot ball player that was also a part time pastor. Every time we would pass by a Home Depot on the road he would say that was his store.   Later as his strength began to weaken he was so grateful for the kindness and support they would give him.  
       Doug was part of the BSF program.  (Bible Study Fellowship) He would go to a church every Monday night for bible study and fellowship.  Once he borrowed a DVD on the Gospel of John.  It was one of his favorite portions of the Bible.  So now Doug is in a better place,  playing his banjo ,singing hymns and bluegrass,  and sharing his joy with all.

We will always have our memories of my brother Doug. From my earliest memories, he was by far the most artistic of us three brothers. He could always sketch and draw with skilful ease. He had a great ear for music and played the bass guitar as a teenager and the banjo in later years.  In the early ‘70s, Doug introduced me to the great music of new bands like Cactus, Grand Funk Railroad and Savoy Brown. More recently, his musical tastes were in bluegrass and country music as he plucked away on his beloved banjo. He was just as comfortable with a fishing rod in his hands, standing by a river.

His voice is now in the wind.  Happy trails, Doug.

You have my sincere condolences for the loss of Doug. May God grant each of you His grace, love, and mercy during this time of grief. And, my your thoughts bring you to the good times you shared together rather than focus of the loss. Doug had a wonderful smile and his face lit up when he spoke of his family and friends. I have had the pleasure of serving Doug throughout his illness and saw his strength in character, and his 'stick with it' attidue, and the hope he kept each day to keep pressing forward to each new day.

My thoughts and prayers are with you now and will continue in the weeks and months ahead. Please let me know if there is anything that the ALS Association can do to help you.

Doug you where a great guy. We only knew each other for a few years, but I felt like I had know you forever. We had good and bad times together at Home Depot. Sometimes we laughed and sometimes we cried tohether. you will always be in my heart forver.
