passed away at Heritage Place Independent Living in Burleson, TX on
September 17, 2021. Novelle graduated from Lohn High School and
majored in Drama at Daniel Baker College. She then moved to Ft. Worth,TX with her family where she worked at the Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation (previously Convair/General Dynamics) during the war. She and two of her sisters, Sybil and Billye, performed in the 1940s as the
Roberts Sister Three, singing at conventions and their daily radio shows.
They often sang for wounded troops in hospitals and were awarded a
Presidential Citation by President Harry S. Truman.
When legendary crooner Bing Crosby saw a picture of the three, he asked
the trio to accompany him on a tour of Europe to entertain troops. They
had to decline because one of her sisters was anemic and could not pass
the physical.
She married H.L. Carroll on October 3, 1947, and moved to Longview, TX
where they lived for 12 years and had two children, Elaine and Jim. She
taught Girls Auxiliary and Young Women’s Association at the First Baptist
Church in Longview. The family moved to Ft. Worth in 1959 where they
were active members of Wedgwood Baptist Church where she sang in the
choir and taught Children’s Sunday School. Later she and H.L. joined
Travis Avenue Baptist Church where they were active members there for
over 50 years. Novelle was a discussion leader in Bible Study Fellowship International
for 13 years. She also remained busy as an artist selling many oil paintings.
She additionally worked as a Mary Kay Consultant for 38 years and had the
most beautiful and youngest looking skin ever. Novelle was an extremely
avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Novelle could usually call the plays better
than some of their coaches and quarterbacks and knew all the players by
name.
She and her husband moved to Heritage Place Independent Living in
Burleson in April, 2006 where she made many new friends and was the
longest-term resident there. She loved their many musical programs. Novelle also taught a bible study group, called "Just Us Girls", and enjoyed playing 42 there. She was known as a tremendous cook and a loving model of graciousness, and a Godly woman that used her spiritual gifts of
teaching, hospitality, her singing and her desire to always help others. Her
stories and sharp sense of humor kept everyone entertained. She exemplified all of the Fruit of the Spirit.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivia Inez Brister Roberts and David Jeremiah Roberts, & her loving husband of 63 years, H.L. Carroll,
who passed away on March 1, 2011.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law,
Elaine and Allen Schneider of Duncanville, TX; her son and
daughter-in-law, James and Jacque Carroll of Burleson, TX; her brother, David Roberts; grandchildren
Jeffrey (Cindy) Schneider, Jonathan (Becky) Schneider, Ashley (Dan)
Winebrenner, Allison (Brian) Carringer; great-grandchildren Maddie,
Caitlyn, Virginia, Zachary, Amelia, Ben, Carson, Audrey; and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
A special thank you to Kay, Tammy, Barbara, Jan, Kathy, Susana, Rhonda, Cathy, Janet, and Sharon, for the fabulous and loving care they gave Novelle throughout the years.
At the family's request, face masks are required for guests and staff. A visitation for Doris Novelle will be held Friday, September 24, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Laurel Land Funeral Home in Ft Worth.
A funeral service will will immediately follow, beginning, Friday, September 24, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
