Diane Sweatman Lacey, born in Breckenridge, TX on May 28, 1930, passed away at Texas Health Harris Hospital Southwest Fort Worth on December 26, 2017. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1952, and during those years was active in the Chi Omega sorority. Shortly after graduating from UT Austin, she married George William Lacey, Jr. of Austin, TX. She later graduated from Texas Christian University with a Master’s degree in Education in 1973, and from Texas Women’s University with her Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Counseling in 1984. She spent most of her work life as a counselor and Professor of Psychology at the South Campus of Tarrant County Junior College in Fort Worth, and was involved in several professional organizations related to counseling, and marriage and family therapy. She also served on the boards of the Wesley Foundation at Texas Christian University, and The WARM Place. Diane was active in the United Methodist Church her entire life, and most recently sang in the choir at Genesis UMC. She was preceded in death by her parents Leonard (“Len”) Eugene Sweatman and Lillian Maxine Sweatman of Fort Worth, and her husband of 35 years George Lacey, Jr. She is survived by her companion of 27 years David Dorries, her sister Carol Len Pitts, her brother Robert Thomas (“Tom”) Sweatman, her three sons and their spouses Kearn & Kimberly Lacey, Doug & Catherine Lacey, and Jeffrey & Cathy Lacey, four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Those who knew Diane will miss her positive attitude, love of life, encouragement, and empathy. A memorial service will be held on January 6, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Genesis United Methodist Church, the Reverend Eddie Kahler officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Genesis United Methodist Church, The WARM Place, or the charity of your choice.
