Dale Wayne Walker passed away on Saturday March, 19, 2022. He was born November 28, 1936, in Burkett, Texas in Coleman County to James and Ioma Walker. Dale was the youngest of two boys, and grew up in Lampasas, TX. He married the love of his life, Wanda Bartlett in Gatesville, TX on August 8, 1961. They had one child.
Dale graduated from Texas Christian University where he played football, serving as captain. During his time at TCU he was a three-year letter winner and played in the 1957 and 1959 Cotton Bowls. He was honored in 1958 with All-Southwest-Conference recognition and the Rogers Trophy as the TCU most valuable Player. Additionally, he was an Academic All-American that year. Dale went onto receive his Master’s degree in education from Texas Women’s University. He also served in the Army National Guard.
Dale was a resident of Burleson for 52 years and was employed as a coach and visiting teacher for FWISD for many years; receiving the Coach of the Year award in 1969, while coaching at Western Hills High School.
Dale was member of First Baptist Church of Burleson. He enjoyed family, friends, and giving back to the community. Dale served on the TCU Letterman’s board and was inducted into the TCU Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Lampasas Hall of Fame in 2016. Dale had a loving relationship with God and served as a Christian example. He was preceded in death by his wife Wanda of Burleson, James and Ioma Walker, Jim Walker of Lampasas.
Survivors: Dale will be remembered by his family: daughter Wendi and husband Mark Schmidt of Fort Worth; grandson Mason; sister-in-law Elva Walker, niece Kimmie and husband Marvin, and Brode DuBose, and Brooke Smith of Lampasas. Niece Cathy Walker-Hooper and husband Richard of Port Aransas.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the TCU Letterman's association, Block T.
A visitation for Dale will be held Monday, March 28, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church Burleson, 317 W Ellison St, Burleson, TX 76028, with funeral service to follow. Interment will be beside his wife, Wanda, at Laurel Land Memorial Park, 7100 Crowley Rd, Fort Worth, TX 76134.
