Charles L. Jefferson was born August 10, 1947 to the late Thomas Jefferson and the late Nancy (Marion) Jefferson. He was the eldest of 3 children, Henry and Gladys. From 1st – 6th Grade they lived in the Como area where Charles excelled as a straight A student, mastering spelling contests and playing the piano. The family then moved to the Southside of Fort Worth where Charles began excelling in basketball.
In his early teen years, Charles attended IM Terrell high school where he improved his basketball skills under Coach Robert Hughes. And, in 1965, IM Terrell won the State Championship with Charles making the winning shot.
In his late teen years he met Caroline Miles whom he married, and from this union one son was born, Charles Rodney Jefferson. At this time, Charles’ membership was at Greater Progressive COGIC, under the leadership of Elder J.L. Johnson. There he learned the Word of God and began to love our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Working in the church was a must for the offspring of Nancy Jefferson.
Charles L. Jefferson later attended Huston-Tillotson College where he became a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and graduated in 1971.
He met Barbara Ann Hill in college and they married in 1973. They lived in Atlanta, GA where Cedric Rhashaad Jefferson was born in 1976. In 1979, Genice LuToi Jefferson (Perkins) was born after moving back to Fort Worth the year prior. At this time, the family placed their membership at Crouch Memorial COGIC (now Crouch’s Time of Harvest COGIC).
Charles proclaimed his love and faith in Christ Jesus and became a faithful usher and bus driver at the church. He was employed by the State, MHMR, and retired from Alcon in 2019.
On February 17, 2023 Charles suffered a massive heart attack and passed away February 28, 2023. He was loved by his family and many others as he consistently volunteered his time to people in need.
Left to cherish and honor his memory is his wife Barbara Hill Jefferson, (sons) Charles Rodney Jefferson, Cedric Rhashaad Jefferson (Brittany), (daughter) Genice Perkins (Frederick), 9 grandchildren LaRonda, LaToya, Brittaney, Brandon Charles, Trenton, Damayah, Cedric Josiah, Parker, and Jaxon. 9 great-grandchildren and a lengthy list of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
