A Graveside Service for Betty will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 10:00 am at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park, located at 5725 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville, Texas 76034.
Betty Allene Drinkard-Coomer was born in Fort Worth, Texas on February 23, 1940, to Bonnie Josephine Harrell-Drinkard and Charles Roy Drinkard, Sr. She graduated from Handley High School. Her first job was at Monnig’s downtown Fort Worth at age 18. She then began her long lasting career in the banking business, being a teller mostly and working in the loan department. She retired at the age of 62 from the bank after 30+ years. After retirement, she became very active in several organizations in East Handley. She served as Treasurer of the Handley Neighborhood Association, Captain of the Code Blue Citizens on Patrol, and Treasurer of the Handley High School Alumni.
She was also a Code Ranger, and also delivered Meals on Wheels. Betty was awarded the Code Blue Patroller of the Year Award in 2005. She was a member of the Handley #617 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Handley United Methodist Church. Betty was also a member of CAC (Community Advisory Committee) and The Historic Handley Development Corporation. In addition, one of her proudest accomplishments was being a lifetime member of the Eastern Star Women’s Auxillary.
Betty was known to be witty and was kind to everyone. She enjoyed playing card games, Bingo, and loved social events that included food and door prizes. Her favorite past times were shopping, eating out and serving her community.
Betty’s passion for animals surpassed that of the average individual. She loved all animals, but specifically dogs, cats and birds. Her latest loves were her bird, Maggie Mae and her precious dog, Toby.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, Charles Roy Drinkard, Jr. and Jack Drinkard, and sister, Bonnie Jo Drinkard-Opitz. Also preceding her were two nephews, Jackie Lee Drinkard and Paul Opitz. As well as the previous listed family members, she was also preceded by her first husband, Floyd Lundquist, and her second husband, Cecil Coomer.
Betty is survived by five nieces, Kathy Stark, Becky Downey, Michelle Evans, Ellen Sutter, Cheryl Hooper and one nephew, Mike Drinkard.
Betty’s close friend, Doris Thomas, was affectionately called “her partner in crime.” She and Doris were always seen out and about eating, shopping and delivering Meals on Wheels. Other friends Betty enjoyed spending time with were Paula Church, Lloyd Jones, James Owens and Angie Longoria.
