TX, passed away peacefully on October 27th and October 28th in Waco, Texas.
Waco visitation only will take place on Monday, November 16, 2020 from 5:00-7:00pm at the
Lake Shore Funeral Home at 5201 Steinbeck Bend Dr, Waco, TX 76708. Watauga visitation for
Bernard and Roma will be Thursday, November 19th from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Shannon Rufe
Snow Funeral Chapel at 6001 Rufe Snow Drive, Ft Worth, TX 76148. A celebration of life
service will immediately follow in Watauga from 11:00am-12:00pm. Their ashes will be interred
at the DFW National Cemetery at 1:00pm following a brief military service. Arrangements are
by Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Chapel.
Bernard Baker Bowman (Sarge) was born on July 18, 1931 to Nina and Melvin Bowman in
Suffolk, VA. Roma Johnson Bowman was born on February 22, 1922 to William Homer and Iris
Elizabeth Johnson in San Antonio, Texas. They married on May 29, 1958, celebrating their
62nd anniversary this year. Together always in life, not separated in death.
Barney was a veteran of the Korean War and was a career Air Force military man. After retiring
from the military he served as a long time bailiff in the Tarrant County Sheriff's office. He was
also a lifelong Mason. Roma had a career as a civil servant and then worked for many years for
the Parks and Recreation of the City of Watauga. They were involved in many aspects of the
City of Watauga including the volunteer fire department, numerous committees, and the
Watauga Senior Center during their 50 years of residence. At age 97 Roma was honored with
the Fort Worth Volunteer of the Century award.
Barney and Roma are preceded in death by their oldest son James Lucas, their parents and
siblings.
Barney and Roma are survived by Charles and Barbara Lucas, Walter and Jenny Lucas,
granddaughter Gypsy Lucas and Tristan Pearman, grandson Howard Mark Alexander,
granddaughters Kara and Eddy Cole, Kerry Olson and Rebecca and Mike Taylor.
Roma is also survived by her niece Carol and Don Heine and her nephew Pat and Laura
Johnson. Bernard is survived by his niece Mary Ellen Wilson and nephews Mike Bowman and
John Bowman. They are also survived by three great grandchildren and one great great
grandchild.
The family of Roma and Barney wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the assisted living
facility at Brookdale Lake Brazos and the wonderful staff of the Compassus Hospice
organization who provided wonderful care during their last months.
