The family invites friends for a come and go Memorial Gathering to celebrate her life on Saturday, April 14, 2018 from 11am to 1pm at Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Chapel.
Barbara was born on October 13, 1931 in Dallas, Texas to parents, Walter Ball and Marguerite Lockhart. She attended Pascal High School in Fort Worth where she played the trumpet. She later met and married James J. Bates on January 12, 1949. She was a great example of work ethic to her beloved three daughters, Joy, Jan and Julie. She worked for Orthopedic Specialty Associates of Fort Worth and retired after 30 years of dedication.
Barbara enjoyed shopping with her daughters and dear sister-in-law, Mary Lockhart, especially when searching for that hard-to-find outfit or home decor. She loved keeping up with professional and collegiate sports, especially football and baseball, and would carry the conversation discussing the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, the Baylor Bears, and TCU. Other pastimes she enjoyed were reading romance mystery novels, working crossword puzzles and word searches, as well as reading her Bible for daily inspiration.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, James J. Bates and brother, Wayne Lockhart.
Left to cherish Barbara’s memory are her three daughters, Joy J. Bailey of Hendersonville, North Carolina, Jan Obenoskey-Gonzalez and husband, Roger Gonzalez of Waco, Texas, Julie Bates Lindsey and husband, Boddie Lindsey of Keller, Texas; and grandchildren, Steven Bailey and wife, Dachelle of Canton, Texas, Stacey Bailey and wife, Angela of Hendersonville, North Carolina, Steffanie Prestol and husband, Omar of Hendersonville, North Carolina, Jay Obenoskey of Austin, Texas, Jon Obenoskey and wife, Hannah, of Austin, Texas, and Baylee Lindsey of Keller, Texas; great-grandchildren, Hannah Diane Bailey, Mattie Justine Bailey, Sophia Prestol, Max Prestol, Ella Grace Bailey, Noah Jonathan Bailey and Jacob James Bailey; nephews, Bob Lockhart and Randy Lockhart, and other extended family members and friends.
