Wayne Gerald Thompson, 87, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at his home surrounded by family. Born March 13, 1929 in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Alfred and Elsie (Hoke) Thompson. Wayne graduated from Central High School, Class of 1946, and later earned a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean War. Wayne was an Electrical Engineer with AEP for 45 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the Engineer’s Club, and the American Legion. A sports fanatic, he enjoyed golf, bowling, and softball. Wayne was a very honorable, fair-minded, and loyal man and a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Geraldine (Mommer) Thompson of Fort Wayne; son, Dennis (Barbara) Thompson of Fort Wayne; daughters, Rebecca (Bruce) Wilson of Fort Wayne, Mary Beth (Michael) Pearce of St. Louis, MO., and Lorraine (Mark) Manuszak of Indianapolis, Ind.; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and sister, Phyllis Blaugh of Fort Wayne. He was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Thomas Blaugh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, July 25, 2016 at 10:30am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1502 E. Wallen Rd., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be Sunday, July 24, 2016 from 2-4 & 6-8pm at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Rd., Fort Wayne, with a Rosary Service beginning at 3:30pm. Entombment to follow the service at Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to Miss Virginia’s Mission House or to St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen.
