Obituary of Vickie Sue Roop
VICKIE SUE (LAWRENCE) ROOP of Fort Wayne, Indiana was 74 years of age when she passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at Parkview Regional Medical Center. She was born January 30, 1947 in Indianola, Iowa. Vickie was a daughter of the late Richard "Earl" Lawrence and Georgianna (nee Taggart) Lawrence Rose. Vickie was a graduate of Ball State University where she earned her Bachelors degree in speech and hearing and Masters degree in Special Education. She was a teacher for 24 years at Central Noble School. She was a member of Ball State University ROTC Angel Flight. Vickie had enjoyed camping for her entire life. Camping as a young girl with the girl scouts and then upon marrying Larry. They have been camping together for over 50 years. Vickie and Larry have been members of the Family Campers and Rvers for many years and have camped in all of the lower 48 states plus vacationed in Hawaii and Alaska. They spent many years traveling together just enjoying retirement. Vickie also enjoyed cross stitch, reading, game shows, computers, fishing and swimming. She spent many summers as a lifeguard at Bixler Lake in Kendallville. She leaves to cherish many memories to her husband of 49 years, Larry; stepson, Tony (Christine); a sister, Connie (Tony) Van Buren; a brother, Stephen (Hazel) Lawrence; three grandchildren, Nicole Martinez, Brady Roop and Cody Roop; two great-granddaughters; a niece, Megan (Aury) Keller; two nephews, Nathan (Sadi) Henry and Brice (Melissa) Lawrence; three great-nieces, a great-nephew; and friends. Also preceding her in death were her step-father, John Rose; and her father and mother-in law, Joe and Mary Roop. "She will be cherished and remembered in our hearts forever". Celebration of Life Service is 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021, at Promise Lutheran Church, 7323 Schwartz Road (46835), with visitation at 10 a.m. Arrangements by D.O.
