Obituary of Thomas H. (Tom) Biesiada
Born on February 25, 1925 in Washington Township, Allen County, Indiana, Tom was the son of Thomas and Ella (Bacon) Biesiada. He grew up in Fort Wayne and attended Central Catholic High School. In his senior year (1944) at the end of the football season and having been crowned "football king" at Central Catholic, Tom enlisted in the U.S. Navy. During the remainder of WWII, Tom served stateside. He was stationed in Key West, Florida where he acted as a First Class Petty Officer commanding a 42 foot torpedo retriever. After the war, Tom met Lillian (Joy) Hayden and they were married on November 29, 1947. Tom took a position at the Bootjack service station on the west side of Fort Wayne and assumed ownership of the business in 1956. The last 25 years of his career were spent at Slater Steel in Fort Wayne from which he retired in 1986. Tom and Joy then settled at Lake Pleasant, Indiana in a home their son, Joseph, built for them. Their last years were spent together in Aboite Township in Fort Wayne. Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Joy, sons, Edward and Joseph, his grandson, David Wehrle, and his close friend, Helen Sell of Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He is survived by his children, Michael (Jeanine Herold) and Lois Wehrle of Fort Wayne, Joyanne Barnett (Duane) of Pleasant Lake, Thomas of New Haven, David of Churubusco, Lawrence (Sonia Rendon) of South Lyon, Michigan, 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 am, Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 10700 Aboite Center Road with an hour of calling prior to the Mass. Calling at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home 8325 Covington Road, Monday, October 8, 2018 from 5-8pm with a Rosary service at 7:30 pm. Burial in Catholic Cemetery.
