Shirley Lois Smith, 90, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away November 13, 2022 at Storypoint of Fort Wayne West. She was born October 6, 1932, in Roanoke, Indiana, the daughter of the late Fred and Olive Stump.
Shirley graduated from Roanoke High School in 1950 and earned her Associates degree in Nursing from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Fort Wayne, IN. She worked in the claims department for the healthcare division at Lincoln Life Insurance Company for 24 years, retiring in 1988. Shirley was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing golf and love to tend to her garden and flowers.
Shirley is survived by her children, Becky Smith, Mark (Gina) Smith, Beth Thelen all of Fort Wayne, IN, Greg (Sandy) Smith of Zanesville, IN; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; twin sister, Sharon L. Pucaro of Palm Beach, FL; and a brother, Jerry (Marjorie) Stump of Bloomington, IL. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Smith in 2011; siblings, David and Mary Stump, Freda Cole, LouRayne Scheiber, and Lucille Wisel.
A funeral service to honor Shirley's life and legacy will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 20, 2022, at D.O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, with visitation beginning at 12:00-noon, two hours prior to the service. The Reverend Canon Gordon Samra, Deacon will be officiating. She will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne.
