Peggy J. Schieferstein, 74, a longtime resident of the Fort Wayne area, died the evening of Thursday March 5th in the home of her son and caretaker Adam Schieferstein and Allana Coulter. Born May 14, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Robert and Peggy Richhart. She moved to Ossian with her husband, Charles “Chuck” Schieferstein and worked as a machinist at ITT until her retirement. Peggy and Chuck raised a blended family of eight children as well as running the Ossian deli for many years. Peggy loved good food, cooking and baking for her family, friends and neighbors as well as being an avid gardener. In her life she crocheted blankets for all of her grandchildren plus scarves and hats for her loved ones. She was a strong willed woman who was known as a straight shooter with wit and a great sense of humor. Peggy was surrounded by family during her passing. She is survived by her husband, Charles; their sons, Mark and Adam Schieferstein, and Charlie Douglas; daughter, Peggy Hogsett; step-sons, Thomas (Cristi)and Timothy Schieferstein; step-daughter, Tracey Aurich; a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Robert Richhart; half-sister, Gloria Lee; adopted brother, James Richhart; and adopted sister, Sherryann Kinkaid. Peggy was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Richhart; sister, Cynthia Richhart; and stepson, Travis Schieferstein. She will be dearly missed and she will remain a loving memory in the hearts of her family.
