Norma E. Hartman, 100, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Wednesday August 21, 2013, at Covington Manor Nursing Home, Fort Wayne. Born March 30, 1913 in Corunna, she was a daughter of the late, Walter and Clara (Krehl) Mertz. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne. She was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, and was a volunteer at Lutheran Hospital for many years. She was a graduate of Manchester College, and taught in a one room school house prior to her marriage. She loved gardening, sewing, cooking, baking and playing cards.
She is survived by her children, Louann Savolt, of Chandler, AZ, Donald Hartman, of Centerville, OH, and Robert (Diana) Hartman, of Roanoke; sister, Doris Prochnow; as well as three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold E. Hartman; daughter, Karen Dillon; sister, Anna Jamison; and brother, Benjamin Mertz.
Funeral service will be held at 11 AM Monday August 26, at Klaehn, Fahl and Melton Funeral Homes, Wayne Street Chapel, 420 West Wayne Street, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Kendallville. Memorial donations may be given to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne.
