May was born July 3, 1946, in Bay Springs, Mississippi. She was the daughter of the late Minnie Lee Payton and Jerry Hosey.
She graduated from Bay Springs High School in 1965 and shortly after, May moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, looking for work. She eventually settled in Beloit, Wisconsin, where she worked at Freeman Shoes for a few years, then began her career at General Motors in Janesville, Wisconsin. In July of 1986, May transferred to the Fort Wayne General Motors Plant and retired in 2000 after 26 years of dedicated service.
May united with Friendship Baptist Church in 1987, under the leadership of the late Rev. P.H. Love, where she served in the Missionary Society and the Scholarship Committee. She was also a member of the church choir and the kitchen committee.
In March of 2014, she united with Grace United Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Guy Willis Sr. where she served faithfully as the Condolence Clerk, Pastor’s Aide and on the Kitchen Committee. May loved her Pastor and his family.
May loved to attend Bible Study at church. She love the Lord and singing Gospel music and it was always playing in her car. May loved her family and spent lots of time with them. She loved her grand babies and would take them back and forth to school daily, until she was no longer able, due to her health.
She would visited the sick and call on them when they were ill, even when she may not have felt well herself. She was gracious and selfless and a beautiful person inside and out.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Shalanda Woodfin (Marc Washington) of Fort Wayne, IN and Shanette (Deon Craig) Newell of Fort Wayne, IN; grandson, Deontae Craig, Zyon Washington and one special granddaughter, Dionna Craig. May is also survived by her companion, Eddie Curry Sr.; sisters, Norma Crosby of Beloit, WI, Margaret Elabashab of Charlotte, NC; brothers, Joe (Lela) Crosby of Bay Springs, MS, Lonnie Crosby of Fort Wayne, IN, Chester Crosby of Beloit, WI, Earnest Crosby of Beloit, WI, Bobby Hosey of Gulfport, MS, David Hosey of Gulfport, MS, and Jerry Hosey III. She also leave a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends to cherish her memory.
May was preceded in death by mother, Minnie Lee Crosby; father, Jerry Hosey; brothers, Cobie Lee Payne, Gaddis Crosby, Benny Hosey; sisters, Mary Ann Osbey, Betty Hosey and stepmother, Mary Hosey.
Funeral Service will be 12:00 pm Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Grace United Missionary Baptist Church 2101 Phenie St. Fort Wayne, IN with visitation one hour prior. Committal and Burial immediately following at Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne, IN.
