Mary Elizabeth Stant, 96, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Coventry Meadows in Fort Wayne. Born in London Bridge, VA, Mary worked for Bank of Virginia for many years, retiring in 1972. She was a member of Park Place Methodist Church, Norfolk Garden Club, WWII Women's Auxiliary, Bridge Club, and Young at Hearts Club. She enjoyed dancing and gardening. She was a gracious lady, a true "southern belle". She was fun and enjoyed playing cards and bowling. She liked entertaining and cooking for others. Surviving are her son, Vernon E "Buddy" (Cecilia) Stant, Jr. of Fredericksburg, VA; two daughters, Charlene Elizabeth (Wilson) Engel of Gilbert, AZ and Deborah Stant of Fort Wayne, IN; grandchildren, Becky Nelson, David Barnes, Aaron Stant, Grace Hill, David Barnes, Andrew Barnes, Wilson Engel, Sarah Barrand, Lucille Stant, Emily Stant, and Earl Stant; great-grandchildren, Wade Nelson, Daniel Barrand, Wyatt Nelson, Isabella Barrand, Sophie Barnes, Chloe Stant, Landon Cash, and Edgar Stant. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years; father, William Jackson Rawles; mother, Maude Rawles; brother, Thomas G Rawles; and sister, Isabele Lasting. A celebration of life will be Thursday, June 14, 2018, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park, 1320 E Dupont Road, Fort Wayne. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk, VA.
