ML, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many passed away on 18 August in Fort Wayne. He was 78.
He is survived by his wife Jill; son Eric (Diane); son Todd (Jill) and their children Alec, Jacob, and Nicholas; a brother, two sisters, and mother-in-law.
Born in Kingman, Kan. 15 October 1931, ML graduated from Kingman High in 1949. After working on the family farm as a young man, ML served in the US Navy from 1951-1954 on the USS Siboney, making three Mediterranean tours. He was a member of the American Legion.
ML was married 30 August 1959 to Jill (Macy) in Kingman. In 2009 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. A marriage filled with love, tenderness, and cooperation theirs was a model to their children.
ML began working for Continental Baking Company in Fremont, Ohio in 1963. A promotion to branch manager brought him to Fort Wayne in 1971. In 1978 he became a sales manager with Perfection Biscuit Company, from which he retired in 1995.
Not only an avid golfer but a good one, ML shot 69 the morning before his wedding, won the Green Hills GC Club Championship in 1965, and at 74 years-old shot his age. In retirement he actively participated in the care of his grandchildren. He shared with them his love of golf and his passion for nature, creating with them Hill Top Farm in the woods behind his home.
He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Visitation calling will be held Saturday, August 21 at Klaehn Fahl & Melton Funeral 420 W Wayne St from 2-4 pm and 6-7 pm with a Memorial Service at 7pm. Funeral Services to be held Monday, August 23, 2010 in Kingman, KS.
In recognition of the care of Dr. Nattam, the nurses, and staff at Fort Wayne Medical Oncology and Hematology and the nurses at Parkview Infusion Center, in lieu of flowers donations may be sent to American Red Cross Blood Services.
